London Round 1

by Amanda Friesen

Good morning lovely people!

As I'm sure most of you know if you follow me on Instagram, I have just come back from a European adventure with my bestie! It was a total blast and I'm so happy I had the opportunity to go on this trip. Today's blog post is about our (first) time in London, as we had round trip flights out of Gatwick. We landed in London on May 14th and we came back on June 3rd so we could fly out on the 5th to come home to Vancouver. On our first visit, we stayed in a place called "Generator Hostel," which was okay, until we realized we couldn't shower because towels cost 8$ Canadian.. Luckily we were only there for two days hehe. Other than that, the place was cheap and efficient! It was right near Kings Cross Station, for easy access to the metro and other trains. There was a cute shopping area near the hostel called Brunswick Shopping Centre, as well as a park called Russell Square. The British Library and British Museum were very close by as well. If you've never been, there is a coffee house called "Cafe Nero" that serves delicious lattes and muffins. I believe there are a few scattered throughout London. I would definitely recommend this area to anyone who has never been to London before, and wants to be cost efficient! Leanne and I had a wonderful two days there. Hope you enjoy the photos!

Leanne and I began our day at a cute restaurant called "Giraffe." I'm picture above with a refreshing mint lemonade.

After breakfast, we started a hop on, hop off bus tour that took us around London.

So much gorgeous history and architecture!

We hopped off the tour bus at the London Eye. If it hadn't have had a ridiculous line up as well as a hefty price tag, we would have ridden it.

Finding Big Ben was one of the highlights of our day! Side note: it isn't easy to find people willing to take your photo. There is also a lot of terrible photographers out there hehe.

More amazing architecture in a little park in the city.

I had to get a photo with a telephone booth! I secretly liked that it was black. This was around Victoria Embankment Gardens.

This strip of road here led up to Buckingham Palace. It was a very humbling experience.

Palace gates! The flag flies when the Queen is home. I wonder what she was up to?!

We ended our day at the Buckingham Palace. After this, we hopped back on our bus and went back to Kings Cross, where our hostel was located. It was a tiring, but eventful day, as we were still overcoming our jet lag from being 8 hours away from home.

Hope you all enjoyed the photos! London was a blast and it was a great way to start our trip. Feel free to leave me a comment if you have any questions! :)
